This is Chandler dressed up like Donnie fixing things. I think Chandler is going to be a Cosplayer when he grows up.

Chandler likes to act out scenes from the Ninja Turtle show. Right now we are acting out a scene where Leo watches his favorite TV show. We’re sitting on the couch staring at a blank TV pretending to watch it. I don’t know if this is better or worse than actually watching TV.

Ever since I introduced the Ninja Turtles to Chandler play time has been a little unbalanced. Pretty much all he ever wants to do is fight. So Ashley and I have been trying to even things out again. A little crime fighting is okay, but we want him to be balanced.

So this morning, when Chandler said today, “There are bad guys in the sewer! We gotta fight them!” I decided to re-direct.

“Maybe we should try to be friends with them! Let’s ask them to come to a pizza party!”

I was surprised at how fast Chandler agreed. We decided we should make a sign for the bad guys. Then we pretended the bad guys were finding our sign and we staged a pizza party.

As soon as they all had some pizza, Chandler urgently told me another bad guy was attacking and everyone at the pizza party should work together to fight the new bad guy.

Well…things were peaceful for a little while at least.

Chandler and I were trying to act out a scene from his favorite TMNT episode. He was supposed to just barely miss me.

Time for an Intervention

Chandler just got home and hugged his Ninja Turtle action figures and said, “I missed my brothers.”

My son won’t let me talk to him in my own voice anymore.

“No! Talk like Leo!”

Chandler lined these up and said they were the Ninja Turtles. Apparently he’s a minimalist.

My response to : R.I.P. T.M.N.T.

Below is someone’s post about their disappointment in the upcoming TMNT reboot on Nickelodeon, followed by my response. I thought I’d share it here since it’s about a kids show. Chandler and I are very excited for this new show.

Okay so I recently heard that nickelodeon had a new teenage mutant ninja turtles series coming out. Naturally, I was excited because I haven’t seen that show since CW took it off the air a few years ago and, let’s face it, the turtles are the shit. So I was hopeful. For a brief second, I forgot that nick had a tendency to ruin things and the turtles were no exception. The commercials almost made me weep. This generation’s kid will never know how truly awesome the turtles really are. The animation is terrible, and that I could maybe look past, but
The
Voice
Actors
Are
Alllllll
Wrong.
Raph doesn’t sound gruff enough. Mikey doesn’t sound like himself. I mean what the hell nick!?!? I guess they plan to one by one ruin my childhood memories.

Let me start by telling you that you are wrong.

I’m a father with a 3-year-old. My son has been my excuse to spend indecent amounts of time investigating this new TMNT reboot. If I didn’t have a son, I’d simply being doing it without an excuse.

This new reboot looks amazing. My son and I have watched every clip on the site. It was just his birthday so now he has a complete line of the new Turtle action heroes, as well as some pretty sweet Leonardo katanas. He’s already quoting the clips and making me act out the scenes with him.

I consider myself an authority on the subject. I grew up watching the original cartoon series and I can still remember how excited I would get every time I saw the New Line Cinema logo in hopes of seeing a commercial for the original live action movie.

So let’s address your complaints.

The animation - Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I think the animation looks awesome. It’s different than the original and you’re just going to have to deal with that. But the creators talked about how they took elements from the original Eastman/Laird comics as well as anime to create this new look. There is a level of detail in these new turtles that gives them all their own personality, as opposed to the original cartoon where the only way to tell them apart was by the color of their masks.

I personally love the new animation.

Next complaint

The voice actors - Basically, you need to let go of the past. So they don’t sound exactly the same as you remember. Let it go. Raph doesn’t sound gruff enough? Here’s what Raph sounded like from the original cartoon.

Maybe you are thinking of Raph from the original live action movie.

Mikey doesn’t sound like himself? In 1987 Mikey was a party dude. In this reboot, Mikey is still a party dude, but a party dude for 2012. So of course he’s going to sound more modern. But from my expert opinion, the new Mikey, as well as the rest of the Turtles, still have the same spirit of their original characters.

But the thing I’m most excited about is the addition of a higher level of authenticity when it comes to ninjutsu techniques and culture. I’ve spent the last 3 years training in ninjutsu. My sensei travels to Japan twice a year to train at the Hombu. (I’m fully aware that I’m going to get teased for this…also, I’m not any good at it)

In the video below you’ll a clip from the new show called “Training Showdown.” (This version was posted by someone on YouTube, but you can find the original plus more at nick.com/turtles) I LOVE all the details in this video. The dojo looks exactly like a Bujinkan dojo, down to the shrines on the wall. The techniques being used are very authentic. The moment they showed Raph flipping Leo in slow motion sent shivers up my spine.

So in conclusion: You are wrong.

Sincerely,

A guy who took your post too seriously.

Chandler keeps calling the Foot Clan the “Foot Clams”

It’s cracking me up. Can someone please make a Foot Clam image?

Chandler keeps making us change characters. “I’m Leonardo! You’re Michelangelo!”

I’m taking the character work very seriously.

When my son says “Shredder” it sounds like sweater.

It sounds like he is making fashion statements. “Watch out for sweater!”
