Were you ready to be a father?
That’s a trick question. No one is ready to be a parent. It’s like going to war. You can train for it. Plan for it. Equip for it. But you’ll never be truly ready.
You might be thinking, “Not me. I was ready.” Really? Were you ready to give up everything? Were you ready to put your old life on the shelf and start a new one? Were you ready to love unconditionally?
Were you ready to touch poop? Were you ready to endure seemingly never ending tears? Were you ready to operate on 2 hours of sleep?
Were you ready to fall in love? Were you ready to laugh every day? Were you ready to train and develop a new human in the ways of this world?
Did you think it would be easy? Or did you think it was going to be hard? Did you think it was going to a million times harder than you thought?
Did you expect your life’s perspective to completely shift the very moment your child was born? Did you expect you’d scope out other people’s strollers as you walked through the mall? Did you expect to be singing and dancing so much?
Did you realize that you’d be responsible for your child for the rest of your life? Did you realize how many hours there are in a day (especially the night part)? Did you realize you could absolutely love something with all your heart even though it was such an inconvenience and brought you so much frustration.
Were you ready to be a father? Yeah, I thought I was too.
