He’s Very Advanced…

I’ve really tried to avoid being that cliche parent who constantly reminds others of how “advanced” and “brilliant” their child is. Most parents you talk to will say something along the lines of, “Our little Parker is already picking up objects. He’s not supposed to do that for another few months. He’s very advanced.” Naturally, parents tend to be overly proud of any little thing their child can do. Like a drunk guy in a bar who sees beauty in even the ugliest of ladies, we look at our children with beer goggles. Well…juice goggles.

And it’s kind of annoying to everyone else. Today’s “He’s already crawling!” comment is tomorrow’s “My son is an honor roll student” bumper sticker.

That being said…you have to watch this video! My son is only 3 months old and he can already roll over from back to front and then from front to back again. He’s like a little genius! At this rate he’ll be walking before he’s 5 months old! He’s very advanced…

Sorry. I just had to get that out of my system. But I must say Chandler’s skill sets are progressing nicely. My favorite part about him turning over is how determined he is. Before he got really good at rolling over like this, we would set him down on his back and he would spend up to five minutes battling to get over  to his stomach. We’re not sure how he knew he was supposed to turn over, or what was motivating him, but clearly he was on a mission. During these battles he would get frustrated and start crying and even screaming. But he wouldn’t give up. He’d get half way turned over, get stuck and fall back and then cry out in frustration. Then he would go at it again with even more gusto. One time after an unsuccessful attempt I finally picked him up and he screamed even more. It was as if he was saying, “I almost had it! Put me back down there! I can get it!”

To me this determination and fight is the most exciting thing about his personality so far. Most babies would give up as soon as they got frustrated or a little bit tired. But not my Chandler. He’s very advanced.
