Before the baby comes and I start writing non-stop about him/her/it I figure I should tell you all about who we are. So I’ll start with my wife, Ashley Smith (previously Schmidt).
Ashley is the love of my life, which works out perfectly because we are stuck with each other forever. If I had to describe Ashley in two words I would say, “creative planner.” Ashley is by far one of the most creative people I have ever known. Her creativity flows into every part of her life. Nothing she does can be done sub-par. Everything needs to be cute and perfect. And Ashley’s creativity is all perfectly planned out. She is the type of person who can plan things out years in advance. You tell her something once and she’ll remember it. She never needs to write anything down (the opposite of me). She has everything under control…always.I noticed I used the word “perfect” a lot in that last paragraph. Maybe I could describe Ashley in just one word.Ashley is currently a 2nd grade teacher and has been teaching for 5 years. She has taught 5th grade and 1st grade as well. To walk into Ashley’s room is to walk into a twilight zone episode where all of the children are perfectly behaved (there’s that word again). Other teachers at her school have become suspicious of her methods because no kids are that well behaved…right? Look around Ashley’s room and you will see her creativity all over the walls. Ashley also holds her students to her high art standards. Many a child has been sent back to their desk to do a better job of coloring their Thanksgiving Turkey, as a single tear rolls down their cheek.Family may be THE most important thing in Ashley’s life. Her family is inexplicably close to one another and Ashley has been dreaming of starting her own family since she was young. Throughout the pregnancy Ashley has been handling herself the way she always does…perfectly. Besides the fact that her belly has been growing at an alarming rate, you would barely know she was pregnant. No crazy mood swings. No bizarre cravings. Just a perfectly planned out pregnancy. (Man, I hope I didn’t just jinx it!)While this blog is all about our baby and how I as father and a comedian will handle fatherhood, Ashley will of course be a crucial part of the story.
