Improvising Fatherhood has a hot new item for sale
So as you know, I’m a blogger. That’s what you’re reading right now. A blog. (gasp! I’m reading a blog? Don’t tell my parents!) And as a blogger who cares deeply about his readers (I’m sucking up because I haven’t been writing as much lately) I spend a lot of time learning about how I can be a better blogger.
That’s how I stumbled on to this...

He's got Mad Dad's Disease!
It’s like Mad Cow Disease, except only Dads get it and it doesn’t keep us from eating yummy beef products.
What are some of the symptoms of Mad Dad’s Disease? One sure sign that you’ve caught MDD is that you’d give away a well established blog for absolutely FREE! Don’t worry. I’m not talking about me. I’m talking about the Dad over at...

natesmithcomedy.com
You may have noticed that lately the posts have not been flowing as freely as they used to. I apologize for that. And I promise things will get better. My career change has completely changed my workflow and I’m struggling to find my productivity chi. Also, my new schedule has made it so I can start performing live shows again. In fact, this past weekend I was part of the opening act for the...

Well it's about time I answered this question!
Today’s episode of Father Knows Best? is a guilty one. This question from Mamalina was asked several weeks ago and I am just now getting around to answering her. Usually this would be no big deal, but Mamalina is a self proclaimed “n00b” and I left her twisting in the wind. She asked me this:
RE:...

Twin Chandlers?
Okay, kick the tires and light the fires. It’s time for another Father Knows Best? Today’s question came to me anonymously.
Do you wish you had had twins? Or is 1 Chandler enough?
Hmm…I’m going to need to think about this one. To be honest, I’m not sure that I don’t have twins. I mean, as far as I know I only have one son. I’ve never seen two...

Stick it to the Man
Today’s question for Father Knows Best? is from an anonymous donor. They ask:
So…be honest. Have you given him mountain dew and does he like it?
Oh I see what you’re trying to do. You’re trying to get me in trouble with the authorities. Nice try!
I honestly can say I have not given Chandler any Mt Dew yet. I’m not sure the world is prepared for a highly caffeinated...

I think my son is a cyborg
So…I think I figured it out. I was sitting in the corner of our living room hiding behind a pile of burp cloths trying not to move while my “child” tore up the room, lifted the ottoman over his head, and touched the ceiling by climbing the drapes, and I had a revelation.
My son is a cyborg.
He’s not human. He’s certainly not a little boy. He’s definitely not a...

And the winner is...
Last week I announced a photoshop/caption contest, giving everyone creative license to mess with my son. Using this picture I asked you guys to come up with the funniest picture and/or caption you could think of.
As an example I submitted this masterpiece.
CAPTION: Dad’s plan to pay for my college with Mt. Dew didn’t work and now I’m working my way through law school!
I thought that was...

Where's the off switch on this kid?
It’s time for another fun filled edition of Father Knows Best? Today’s question is about how I get Chandler to take naps.
I took a long break form reading your blog and being a mommy and student i don’t have a whole lot of time to devote to going back and looking at what i missed so i don’t know if you’ve covered this but i wanted to ask you how do you get chandler...

Guest post from a Portland Stay at Home Dad
You know, when you’re a working father-blogger it can be tough to get a new post written everyday. I’ve got a new job and…well…I’ll just say it…I don’t know what the crap I’m doing yet. At the end of the day my brain is still in a tizzy from the excitement and confusion of the last 8 hours I just spent mentally treading water.
At first I was going...

Bedtime
So…I was thinking of coming up with some original content today but then I got lazy. So instead I’ll answer a question. Welcome to Father Knows Best? Today’s question comes from Kat. She asks:
When’s his bedtime? What do you and your wife do after he goes to sleep? We are big fans of video games in this household! -Kat p.s. hows that for a (semi)parenting related...

The biggest scare of my parenting life
Last night I had the biggest scare of my career as a father. It was late (or early, depending on how you look at it) and I was sleeping in Chandler’s room on my usual night duty so Ashley could get a good night’s rest. I was awoken by Chandler’s cry which is not entirely unusual. I let him cry it out for a bit. Suddenly his cries turned to more of a panicked shriek. I jumped up...

Because I SAID SO
It’s time to answer another question from the Father Knows Best? queue. Today’s question was submitted anonymously.
“Because I said so” is such an interesting phrase. As a married woman I think about the day I become a mom and would like to know, does and will that statement work for EVERY argument or should I be prepared with other backups?
Thanks for asking! So far, with...

Improvising Fatherhood Photo "Shop" contest: April...
A little while back I held a “photoshop” contest and provided a funny picture of Chandler for you guys to make even funnier. This contest was “wildly successful.” By “wildly successful” I mean only one non family member participated and the rest of the submissions were by my wife on behalf of her family.
One common response I got was, “I don’t know...

Hoppin' down the bunny trail
My wife, the brilliant video editor, is back at it again. This time she has taken a compilation of photos (taken by my prolific photographer father-in-law) and put them all together to make this extremely delightful video of our Easter day. Enjoy!

My review of the iPad →
I mentioned in a previous post that I used to work for Apple and now that I have moved on I can finally write about them. Well my good friend Joe Aimonetti and I have teamed up and have started writing a blog called “Dirty Rotten Apples.”
Dirty Rotten Apples is an Apple blog written from a unique perspective. Both Joe and I worked for Apple for several years. We each started as part...

Making a career change while being a father
This year has been full of changes for me. My wife had a baby. The US has its first ever black President. It’s the last season of LOST. You know…monumental life changing events. But it had been a few months since something huge and life altering had happened so I decided to go ahead and shake things up.
So I switched careers. No big deal. Right?
I’ve never officially talked...
